There is not one mum or dad who doesn’t care how the party that they are planning for darling daughter or darling son turns out. We all strive to create a party that’s fun and remembered because isn’t that the essence of celebrating another milestone in our children’s lives – creating memorable family moments? With 15 years experience and over 5000 kids parties and events, and producing almost 25 my own families parties, I’ve found there are 3 essential ‘ingredients’ that turn a kids birthday party into a brilliant kids birthday party.
Essential #1 – Ambiance
Ambiance is the character and atmosphere of a place (or an event) and encompasses the look, the mood, the feel. If you want a party to be remembered for a long time, engaging all the senses is a major key. Naturally, visual imagery and colour is extremely effective for creating a party atmosphere,
but funnily enough is often overlooked. Starting with a party theme is the best way to begin creating an ambience and often it doesn’t require too much effort. The internet is full of wonderful party decorating ideas for all budgets. (Go here for Balloonaversal’s top kids party ideas)
Essential #2 – Music
Again, engaging our senses and bring vibrant, upbeat rhythms and tempos into your party, not just for the party games but as a background ambience will again add an additional layer to your party. This is honestly something that most people overlook for their kids parties and but when included it gives any party a real lift.
Essential #3 – Fun
It would be remiss of me to leave this off as it is the most obvious point. Every party needs to have some form of entertainment to contain the kids – games, activities, crafts, a party at a kids entertainment venue, not to mentions the vast array professional entertainment options. There are so many available to parents nowadays that it can become quite overwhelming.
There are several key elements that come into play when planning the ‘Fun’ part of the party. Take these into consideration:
• Age of the children
• How many kids invited
• A DIY party versus a DIWS party (Do It With Someone – outsource aspects of your party such as catering and entertainment which are the main ones usually) or a DIWY party (Do It Without You – this is where you hand the reins over to a party planner or event manager and give them a budget), not as common but becoming more popular.
Careful planning utilizing these 3 essential ingredients for your next children’s birthday party (or adults party for that matter) is a sure fire way to ensure a brilliantly successful and most importantly, a totally memorable family event.
